Image result for yip manYip Man, Ip Man or Ip Kai Man, was a Wing Chun Master and the teacher of Bruce Lee. He was a father of 2 sons and 2 daughters. His sons ended up to continue his work.

Yip Man was born on October 1, 1893, in Foshan, China. He was raised by his wealthy parents, being the third child in his family. Yip Man was allowed to study and practice Wing Chun under Chan Wah Shun at the age of 12. Wah Shun then died after 3 years of teaching Man.

When he was 15, Man moved to Hong Kong to study at St. Stephen's College. With his studies in the way, he still had time for training. After 9 years, he returned to Foshan and was employed as a police officer. In the 9 years time training for Wing Chun, he was ready to teach the art.

At the age of 56, he again fled back to Hong Kong when the Chinese Communist Party took over. He opened a Wing Chun School there and was announced the first martial artist to teach publicly and the Grandmaster of Wing Chun. The now deceased Bruce Lee was his best student. He started to train with him when he was 13.

Yip Man was married to Cheung Wing Ching until 1960 and had two sons that are both Wing Chun Masters right now. There isn't that much information on his daughters, Yip Ar Sum and Yip Ar Woon. His death took place on December 2, 1972, ending his suffering from cancer. After his death, movies about him were made such as the Ip Man trilogy, Ip Man: The Legend is Born, Grandmaster and the Ip Man: The Final Fight.

In Foshan, when the city was invaded by the Japanese, he fought the general of the invaders and won, but was shot on the shoulder because of his victory. Man, with his modified Wing Chun, saved his people multiple times. He is a man to be remembered and whose work is to be handed out.

The Water Cycle

How Is The Water Cycle Processed?

The water cycle is the cycle that doesn't stop in the world. It's like a hamster that never dies or gets tired running on a hamster wheel. But it's getting way too much because of the greenhouse effect and global warming. Here is how it works...

The first process of the cycle is the evaporation. It is when the heat from the Sun gets to the surface of the sea. Because of that it becomes steam, followed by water vapour. This happens like a water bottle with water only halfway to the top. When left out in the Sun it then warms up when taken back. You might also see steam rising up. That is Evaporation, warming up. Then the next one, Condensation.

The Condensation process is when the water molecules ascends to the clouds and make liquid inside them. Again, with the bottle in the Sun process, after it heats up the steam goes to the top of the bottle and eventually, makes water, again. By observing closely, you would see the newly made water dripping down slowly, until it's together with the warm water on the bottom of the bottle. This process is called Condensation, recycling water.

Finally Precipitation, rain. After the Condensation process, that's when the rain comes down, that's also when the water in the bottle starts dripping. After this process, the cycle starts over once again. During the rain, the cloud the got Condensed gets blown somewhere high, like a mountain and later on, the Collection process happens. That's when the rain continues and stops, making a tiny stream on the mountain that flows back to the sea or the ground for some plants to use or villages. Then the cycle starts over, and over again.

The water cycle is the cycle that doesn't stop in the world. It's like a hamster that never dies or gets tired running on the hamster wheel. It's also a water bottle with water only halfway to the top, left out in the Sun and warm when taken back.

Wow, sketching really get's your boredness away!!!

There was that one day in the holidays. It wasn't a very nice and happy day, but a boring and humid day. It was Tuesday 18th of July when I noticed that we borrowed a drawing book from the library the day before, Draw the 50 Way. I asked my sister, "Can I borrow one of you art paper?" And she agreed. So as I take the paper from my sister's grip, I felt the thick and firm feeling of the paper. I took a pencil and started flipping the pages nervously.

I flipped the every page before the drawing I picked, a Triceratops. It looked quite easy, that's how it got my attention. I started with an oval and long line probably a centimeter and 2 millimeters beneath. It was for lining up the feet and the tail. Well, after that, I drew the tail and few of the legs and the head. Then I continued and as I got halfway through the drawing I made a few silly mistakes, so I took the rubber from my sister's pencil case. How long is this going to take, I thought. It's been 25 minutes since I drew the big oval. When I finished, I rubbed everything off and drew the outlines. It went kind of well on the body, but not the head, I didn't sketch it out. Instead, I drew it in a line art way. Well, that was a fail.

The next one I drew was a chick, now this was easy. You don't need to rub off anything at the end. And that's not the only thing I liked about it, it had shading details. I started drawing, but this time, excitedly. I started with a small, horizontal oval and a horizontal curved line lying on the left-hand-side of it. As I continued, I got more excited that I made a lot of mistakes that I even had to rub all of it all, so I started again, calmly. When I got to the end, I noticed the beak. The thing I noticed was it looked like the beak was connected to the head like it's meant to have feathers too. So I drew a line to separate it. It still had scary eyes though.

I thought I was done, but something caught my eye, it was a drawing of a beagle. It was like the chick, but we had to rub the whole thing off in the end. But I drew it anyway. I decided that I should do a quick sketch. And when I finished, my sister noticed that I did line art. So I did the whole thing again. You know how hard it is? I rubbed the whole thing off and started sketching and that took more than 15 minutes. When it was close to its ending, I rubbed everything off and drew what I had to draw and shaded what I had to shade. It went well, it kind of looked like the one from the book, except, the head was a bit short. But I still liked it.

Well, that was one way to make a boring day into an interesting day of the holidays.

I'm so glad that my baby sister is well again!

Screenshot 2016-11-21 at 10.42.32.png
On Saturday, the 19th of November, my family rushed my baby sister to the hospital. We packed two bags as fast as we could before my dad came home to drive us to the hospital. The bag that my mum asked me to pack my baby sister's bag. I packed some clothes in case she vomited again. Meanwhile, my sister prepared our bags for us. She packed some clothes for my mum in case my baby sister vomited on her and some food.

When we arrived, we went to the information person to ask where we could take my baby sister. He said that we have to take her to the children's emergencies. When we got to the parking lot, we tried to find a parking spot, but we couldn't find one. There were only some empty spaces in the adult emergencies department, so my dad dropped us in front of the entrance of the children's emergencies and went off to look for a parking. When we went in, I could already hear some crying. A toddler was crying and I assumed that she was hurt in some way. My mum told my sister and I to sit down while she talked to the receptionist. I asked my sister where my phone was and she pointed to her Nike bag. I took it out and started playing my 3D ninja game.

After a while, my sister heard my mum's phone ringing so she took it out and It was my dad. She brought it to mum so she could answer it. Before she answered it, my dad walked into the hospital. Then my sister said to put my phone away because we were going, so I did.

We  followed a nurse who led us to where we stayed. She told us that we were going to stay in cubicle B. When my mum put my baby sister down on the little bed, she started crying. My sister and I panicked and looked around for something for her to play with. After looking around quickly, we found some books on a shelf so we took one. It was about a police dog. She started flipping the pages but she still wasn't happy. My sister went outside, but I didn't know why, but soon she came back came back with a car that my baby sister could fit in. My mum put her in and my sister and I started pushing her around in the corridor. Soon my baby sister was happy and steering the wheel.

Afterwards, we went back to the cubicle and my mum took my baby sister out of the car and put her on the bed. My sister and I went out to put the car away and we saw a little girl colouring a picture of dinosaurs with felt pens. We went back and asked our mum if we could go to the children's colouring room, and of course she said yes.

When we arrived in the colouring room, we ended up colouring for a little girl because she was struggling to colour in a picture of dinosaurs.  While she was colouring, I was reading a story that was written on the wall. It was about a happy couple sailing through the sea. There were toys, obviously. There was also a pretend pirate ship with an actual pirate ship steering wheel. After that, I went to my sister and ruined her picture, because I put some dots around the dinosaurs and she ended up making boomerang clips .

Before long, we went back because we heard our baby sister crying. We opened the curtains and saw mum carrying her and she was able to fall asleep. My sister sat on the chair, so I didn't have a chair to sit on, so I told my sister to move over so I can sit next to her. I took my phone and started playing games again. After I played three stages, a nurse went in to check on my baby sister and She was already asleep, so the nurse talked to my mum quietly. She said that we could go home after she wakes up. All of a sudden, my baby sister woke up and our work begun. We packed our bags and was ready to go home.

My favourite part of the day was when my baby sister woke up because we were able to go back home, because I was getting a little bit annoyed of the babies and the toddlers crying so I was very relieved that we could go home!

I didn't know that snow was so cold!

Image result for snow mt ruapehuOn Saturday, the 20th of August, My family and I woke up at 3 o’clock in the morning to get ready to go to Mt. Ruapehu. My aunt forced my mum and dad to go with them. We had to prepare our thermal clothing with us because it will be very cold there. I brought out a very thick coat and a hoodie. My mum brought out my dad’s cycling leggings for me to wear and then I wore my jeans over it.

Before very long, we set off to my aunt’s and uncle’s house so we could follow them to our destination in the car. However, they were still getting ready. They were packing lots of food into the trunk of their car.

When they were finished, my dad parked our car outside and we waited for them to come out. Two hours later, we weren’t in Auckland anymore, we stopped near a shop and my dad went out of the car to hang out with his friends. We watched Garfield in the car while we were waiting. A few minutes later, one of my dad’s friends came in the car and sat on the passenger seat to talk to my mum. After a while, dad came back to the car and we set off for another hour.

Eventually, we arrived at a gas station near Mt. Ruapehu. It was cold when we got out of the car. Then my uncle came into the car to give us some chocolate marshmallows. We went out from our cars to go to the toilet at the gas station. The girls went in the toilets first and while I was waiting, I ate some salted crackers. After they came out, it was my turn to go in. I felt scared because the lights were turning off every 10 seconds. After that, we went out of the shop and went back to our cars to head to our destination, Mt. Ruapehu. When we were getting close, I could see the snowy mountains!

As soon as we arrived there, we ate some of the food that my aunt and uncle had prepared. It was spicy Filipino dishes that I loved to eat. We ate all the food that our stomach could carry. After we ate, we joined the line in front of the shuttle bus to go to the top of Mt. Tongariro. We hopped on the bus after we got our tickets.

I was so scared because the bus was very close to the edge of the road. Thankfully, we arrived there safely. There were a lot of cars in the parking lot. My sister and I played in the snow on the side of the road. My sister borrowed one of my gloves and picked up some snow. I already knew what she was going to do so I ran away. She wanted to pick a snow fight with me.

Later on, we went to the ski lifts to go to the part of the mountain that had the most snow. The ski lift was really fun to ride on because I was high up in the air. After my sister went to the toilet, we went to look for my mum. We found them watching other people skiing. My mum told me to slide down a little slope with my shoes. I walked back up sideways and did it again.

After a few slides, a very kind Filipino family lent us some plastic sleds. I wanted to try it, so I got on one. I started off slow and when the slope became steeper I went down the hill really fast. When I was halfway down the hill, I went towards the sledding lane ridge and slid beside it. I pushed it with my foot to get away from it. I saw a stop sign, so I stopped my sled with my foot. When I went back up, I asked my sister to have a race with me and she agreed. I failed two times and lost the race. Soon, I stopped sledding and I just watched the others sled. A few minutes later, we sat down on the snow to have a chat. After a while, the others stopped sledding and we went back to the ski lifts to go back to where the shuttle was parked. We went back down the mountain, again I felt scared.

When we arrived, we took out some more food to eat. My sister and I brought out some spaghetti that we had prepared. We ate all the food so that we would last the 4-hours drive home. I had two helpings because it was very delicious, my dad had cooked this dish for my baby sister’s 11th month birthday. After that, we put all the leftovers in the car and set off home.

My favourite part of the day was when I was sledding because it was my first time and I haven’t tried it before. I will never forget that day!

You really shouldn't live near an active volcano!

Image result for volcano diagram
Volcanoes erupts because of the core's pressure. From the magma chamber, the magma rises.

Volcanoes are mountain that have openings that allows the magma to go out. Lava, gas, ash and rocks erupts out of the opening. The openings are called craters.

Volcanoes erupts along the boundaries from the Earth's plates, where molten rock is forced up to the crater from the magma chamber. The core can also cause a volcano eruption, it gives pressure to the magma chamber which makes the molten rock rise.

Sometimes volcanic eruptions cause lava to flow out. If the lava reaches the forest, it can cause forest fires. Lava flows can burn houses as well.

Some volcanoes are extinct, some are dormant and some are active. Some volcanoes are strong enough to affect cities.

Learning Intention: We are learning to follow the structure of an explanation.

Success Criteria: I know I can do this when I write the introduction, followed by the explanation sequence, the effect and then the conclusion about how a volcano erupts.

It was a very tiring day!

On Saturday the 3rd of July, my family and I decided to clean our house. We used blue microfibre towels, sweeping brushes and dust pans. The house was really dirty!

I started in the kitchen. My mum told me to mop the whole kitchen until it was colourless. Of course, my mum was joking. She meant she want it to be spot less. It only took me 5 minutes to clean before it looked quite good, so I rinsed the towel and went to the bathroom to mop the floor.

The bathroom was a small place so it took me less than two minutes to wipe the floor of the bathroom. Soon the bathroom floor was sparkling clean. Then my mum told me to wipe the floor of my bedroom.

I wiped my bedroom's floor and had a hard time doing it because there were a lot of hard to reach places. I had to mop underneath my bunk bed that my sister and I sleep's on. I had to hold on to the ladder and wipe with my feet. After that, I had to go under the bed to wipe the corners. Finally, after that I was done.

My favourite part of the day was when I mopped the bathroom because that was the fastest room for me to clean. It was very tiring. I think I might try dragging the towels to be more efficient next time.

Rippa Rugby is so much fun!

Today, we played ripper rugby on the gigantic field at our school. Our coach’s name is Hamish.

The first thing that he gave us to put on were the Velcro belts and some colored Rippas. After that, we had to spread out in the marked area and try to steal other people’s Rippas. If we managed to steal another person’s rippa, we can put the rippa on our own Velcro belts.

For the next activity, we had to get into pairs and line up behind each other. We had to stand behind a cone and place the rippas one at the front of our belt and one at the back. The person at the back has to try and grab the rippa from the person in front of them. We had to listen carefully to the whistle and when the whistle blew, that was our cue to start chasing after our partners.

Then we played a real Rippa Rugby game with the rugby ball. We had to try and take the Rippa off the person that is running with the ball. If the Rippa is ripped off, then the person who had the ball had to pass the ball to someone else on his or her team.

I had a lot of fun and I was so exhausted at the end of the session as I was running around a lot.

Learning intention: We are learning to follow the correct structure of a recount.

Success criteria: I know I can do this when I write an introduction, followed by the activities and then a conclusion about our first Rippa Rugby session.

How a friend could be better

A friend could be better if they can be trusted.

A friend  should not be a bully because their friend will get angry and it will cause a big fight. A friend could be better if they play with each other, because I will feel lonely if they don't.

A friend should stop telling lies because their friend will say some unkind words.

How could adults be better ?

I really think that adults could be better if they stop fighting with each other.

I believe that adults should stop smoking because their children might get sick.

Adults should also stop being abusive to children because their children will get scared and run away from their house.

Adults should stop swearing because their kids might say it to other people.

The most important thing is, adults should stop telling children off in front of other people because they might get embarrassed.

Badminton

It was our last day of badminton last Friday.

First we played stuck in the mud. I got tagged lots of time because the taggers was too fast. Then we stopped and listened to the coach.

Coach Ben told us to get rackets and shuttlecocks. Then he told us to be in six person team. After that he took some nets.

Then he split us in threes and we played. I tried focusing on the shuttlecock because the team that I was against was good at badminton.

Finally we finished playing and I helped the coach put the nets back. Then we said goodbye to coach Ben,and then we went back to class.

It was cool playing badminton.
